What you need to know about chromebook

A Chromebook: a laptop, but more competitively priced. Google's Chromebook is becoming increasingly popular in the Netherlands. The Chromebook is increasingly at the top of the wish lists of the most desired devices.

Chrome OS - the benefits

A Chromebook is a notebook with the Google operating system Chrome OS. Everything on the Chromebook works via the Internet and more and more manufacturers are making Chromebooks - laptops running Chrome OS. Google collaborates with Acer, Toshiba, Lenovo and Hewlett-Packard, among others.

In fact, Chrome OS is just an internet browser (internet browser Chrome) supplemented with various extras. The central idea is based on Cloud Computing and software developers can focus on developing web programs without worrying about the operating system. The web applications can run on both Google Chrome OS and existing operating systems using web browsers.

From the start, Chrome OS has been intended to provide a fast, simple, and more secure computing experience for people who spend a significant portion of their time on the Internet. The Google Chrome OS software has been kept as limited as possible. And because Chrome OS is a small operating system, computers running Google Chrome OS can boot in less than 10 seconds.

Google applications

A Chromebook has almost all the software that you will find on a desktop. You can use it to create word processes, spreadsheets or create presentations. Google has created its own program for each application: Documents (as a replacement for MS Word), Spreadsheets (as a replacement for MS Excel) and Presentations (as a replacement for MS Powerpoint). It is also possible to start web applications, such as Youtube, Gmail, Google+ and Google Maps.

Please note: With some exceptions, it is only possible to run web-based applications on the Chromebook via the built-in Google Chrome web browser. The software is online, while data is stored on the internal hard disk (SSD) - and of course also in the cloud. Anyone who purchases a Chromebook will receive (free for a limited period) 100 GB of storage with Google Drive - comparable to a service such as Dropbox. In the online storage one can store data and share it with other people.

In addition to Google's applications, the number of available web-based apps from others is also increasing. You have a wide choice of programs in Google's online Web Store. Traditional programs known from the PC have almost all had an online version for some time. You can listen to music via Spotify - everything via the internet.

In this way, almost all software that is also available on a PC is available online on a Chromebook. Google even offers functionality that allows one to work offline. And recently, Chromebook can also use the official Microsoft Office Online, so you can also use the official Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications.

Everyone has a Chromebook

The Chromebook is sometimes called the laptop for everyone. But why buy the Chromebook ? The interested party is looking for a laptop that will keep him going for a while. The main reason is that the Chromebook is so accessible. And because it's so cheap - much more affordable than the average laptop. A Chromebook often costs less than 300 euros. The Chromebook is ideal for on the road because it lasts a long time on a single battery. The Chromebook also doesn't weigh much, making it easy to carry. Moreover, everything is very easy; much is immediately clear. The ease of use is high, because the Chromebook starts up quickly. The speed is partly due to the presence of flash memory instead of a traditional hard disk. As a user, you don't have to worry about annoying chores such as updates, virus scanning and making updates, because all this happens automatically. The security of the Chromebook is an important plus.
In short: the fame of the Chromebook will also increase in the Netherlands in the near future. A laptop to keep an eye on.
